For a successful return to community-based living

Domiciliary Program

The Domiciliary Program (DOM) serves Veterans that are enrolled in a 45-day residential treatment program at the Domiciliary at the West Palm Beach VeteransAdministration Medical Center (VAMC). The Domiciliary at the VAMC provides mental health and substance abuse treatment to Veterans experiencing homelessness and those at risk for becoming homeless.

With a referral from their primary and recreational therapists, participants from the Domiciliary attend weekly, 90 minute equine-assisted learning sessions for four consecutive weeks.

Over the course of the 4-week program, Veteran participants will develop Natural Horsemanship-based skills and have the opportunity to build relationships with our equine partners.

Though the DOM curriculum is skills based, this group is geared toward increasing socialization, fostering a sense of belonging, increasing mindfulness, improving self-esteem and sense of purpose, all of which support the VA Domiciliary’s mission to help provide a successful return to community-based living.
